New Bird-Watching Trails to Boost Eco-Tourism and Wildlife Conservation in Uttarakhand

The Haldwani Forest Division has developed five new bird-watching trails in Nainital and Champawat districts to promote eco-tourism. These trails aim to raise awareness about forest and wildlife conservation while offering bird lovers unique experiences. Rare birds like hornbills, flycatchers, and woodpeckers can be spotted in these regions.

To enhance eco-tourism while promoting forest and wildlife conservation, the Haldwani Forest Division has introduced five new bird-watching trails across the districts of Nainital and Champawat. These trails are designed not only to protect local flora and fauna but also to educate visitors about the importance of nature conservation. Spread over 250 km², areas like Nandhaur Wildlife Sanctuary and Champawat's dense jungles now feature these new trails where tourists can observe rare bird species in their natural habitat.

Officials highlighted that the initiative offers multiple benefits, including creating employment for local communities, raising awareness among students and tourists, and reducing pressure on core forest areas. Bird-watching trails in places like Sitabani, Soni, Latthitop, and Amori, along with Nandhaur Sanctuary, offer sightings of hornbills, white-rumped shama, black-throated tit, and many other rare species. The forest department believes this will not only strengthen conservation efforts but also contribute to the region’s sustainable tourism model.
